About me

Hello, my name is Michaela Kluever, thank you for your interest in my work. My passion for photography began early in life – a long time ago :-).
But for nearly 20 years, my standards for respectful nature and travel photography have been shaped by teaching, planning and running photoworkshops with Highlight Tours.

Today, I live in Sardinia and lead various photography workshops by appointment and on a volunteer basis.

Über mich: Fotosituationen, bei denen es abenteuerlich wird, sind mir am liebsten

I am a member of Nature First  and support the seven principles of this alliance for responsible nature photography:

  • Prioritize the well-being of nature over photography.
  • Educate yourself about the places you photograph.
  • Reflect on the possible impact of your actions.
  • Use discretion if sharing locations.
  • Know and follow rules and regulations.
  • Always follow Leave No Trace principles and strive to leave places better than you found them.
  • Actively promote and educate others about these principles.

For me, a photo excursion also includes preliminary research on the phototopic, studying the light and topography of a location, and observing animals in their natural environment to achieve the best results possible. But nature often follows its own ideas – weather changes, seasonal effects – sometimes the best photo is the one I didn’t plan. Staying open to spontaneous reactions is just as important as good, well-organized preparation. I find it more satisfying to bring home photos from a place I’ve developed a personal connection with, rather than photographing what everyone else is photographing at a tourist hotspot. My favorite photos are the ones that tell stories—about nature and local life. Photos that look beyond the obvious.

I invite you to explore my galleries, thank you for visiting!
