Photo adventure – Caves and cliffs in Sardinia
In October, the Adventure Class met in Sardinia for a week-long photo adventure tour with me. We had previously traveled together to Greece for
canyoning adventures (2022) and volcano adventures (2023). As in previous years, I wanted to avoid the usual tourist traps when selecting our destinations, instead preparing a challenging photographic theme for us to work on together. This year, my focus was on grottos and cliffs , with the exciting special case of grottos in the cliffs – that is, grottos with sea views.

Geographically, the excursions along the west coast were framed by the coastal towers of Torre del Pozzo south of Cuglieri and Torre Argentina north of Bosa. The coastal landscape along this stretch is very diverse, featuring sandy beaches, steep cliffs, pebbly coves, and river mouths. Light limestone cliffs transition into dark volcanic cliffs and vice versa.

We traveled inland as far as the Greek village of Montresta, where a traditional oven with a flickering fire awaited us. With a little imagination, we could have even redefined it as a small grotto 🙂. But that day was different. We learned a great deal from Leonarda about traditional bread-baking and pasta-making techniques. There was plenty of opportunity to try it out ourselves, culminating in a wonderful meal together. An unforgettable experience.

Of course, cliffs and caves aren’t easy subjects to photograph. The Adventure Class seeks out a special challenge for experienced hotographers. Ralf says in retrospect: “On our first photo tour, I really struggled with the cliffs and caves – but in the end, the pictures just kept getting better.” I think we explored the full range of technical possibilities in a very experimental way. From wide-angle lenses to macro, handheld or with a tripod, from available light and flash to light painting, we used everything.

Peter said: “It was fantastic once again, from Michaela’s preparation to the program and the atmosphere in the group. I think the pictures speak for themselves.” Thank you so much, Peter! I would also like to thank Franco, Giuseppe, Vittoria, Lilli, and Leonarda for their invaluable support and numerous tips in preparing the theme. Finally, here is a photo gallery showcasing some of the results from this year’s Adventure Class.
