Photoprojects in Sardinia

After many intensive years of traveling with “Highlight Tours – Fotoreisen”, I fulfilled a dream and settled in Sardinia. My home in Cuglieri serves as the starting point for many of the photo projects in Sardinia I’ve worked on over the past few years. From there, both the mountains and many of the beaches and cliffs of the west coast are easily accessible. Here I can go on a photo discovery tour without a lot of travel effort and work out new photo themes and excursions. It takes months for a photo project to be completed, and some can take longer than a year. And some subjects stay with me for a lifetime. I’m satisfied with the final results when the selected images cover all aspects of the topic or when they tell a story.

I’d like to share the experiences I’ve gained through this work with my fellow photographers. You can participate in one of the photo projects, in photo excursions with individual tailoring. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I’ll take you to the best spots at the right time and in the best light, so you can take home your favorite photos. Preferably off the beaten tracks – you’ll take home images that have resulted from a deeper engagement with the nature, history, or culture of the location.

Water and Light

The idea is to capture that special moment when fleeting color effects, highlights, and reflections can be caught. This means photographing at sunrise, during the golden hour, at sunset, and during the blue hour. The compositional approach can range from classic wide-angle compositions to close-ups of details and micro-landscapes. You can find a selection of my favorite photos from this project in the Water and Light gallery.

Wind and Waves

The idea is to capture the raw power and primal force of nature’s elements. In all their forms, from towering waves, spray, and eddies to the intricate details of the surf. The entire range of lenses, from long telephoto to wide-angle, is used. A selection of my favorite photos from this project can be found in the Wind and Waves gallery.

Waterillusions

Does a camera deliver a true representation of reality? No, not necessarily. Creative distortion techniques during the shot, that is, entirely without Photoshop, can be an exciting option when photographing by the water. This creates new landscapes, half real, strangely unreal and familiar at the same time. Each result is unique. You can find a collection of my favorite photos from this project in the Water Illusions gallery.

Flamingos

Photographing flamingos isn’t easy. On the one hand, the escape distances are considerable, on the other hand, they often just stand around rather unphotogenically with their heads down in the water, and nothing much happens. To get interesting photos, you need to patiently observe the animals. The idea is to end up with a collection of photos that tell a story, featuring single birds, groups of flamingos, shots in flight, and scenes of action and interaction. You can find a collection of my favorite photos from this project in the Flamingo gallery.

Wild Horses

The Giara plateau offers the sardinian small horses a secluded, protected habitat. Here, with a little patience, the animals can be observed and—with even more patience—photographed. The idea is to end up with a collection of photos that tell a story, featuring individual horses, groups, animals in motion and as elements of the vast Giara landscape. A selection of my favorite photos from this project can be found in the Giara Horses gallery.

Butterflies

Sardinia is home to many butterflies. To successfully photograph them, it’s helpful to know which species can be found where and when. The idea is to not only capture images of resting butterflies but also some shots of them in flight and mating. You can find a collection of my favorite photos from this project in the Butterflies gallery.

Orchids

The idea is to capture the incredible diversity and beauty of wild orchids in Sardinia. A collection of my favorite orchid photos can be found in the gallery “Orchids in Sardinia”. You can learn more about photographing wild orchids in the article “Orchid Photography and Composition” on my photo blog.
